When I first came to college, I knew nothing about what to eat. My mom loved spending time in the kitchen. She made all my meals, from cooking dinner every night to my school lunches, so when I came to college, I was clueless.
In the first few months of my freshman, I found myself gaining weight, and I had no idea why. I was walking a lot and working out, but the problem came from the food I was eating. My college had a station called ‘True Balance” which was advertised as “creating a balanced plate an easy choice by offering a complete meal in the form of a starch, a non-starchy vegetable, and a protein” (JMU Dining Services. FAQ: What is True Balance?). Yet, on most nights this “balanced plate” had over 30 grams of fat, when a person's daily intake should be between 42 and 58 grams (Spritzler, 2016).
That is why I was inspired to make this website. I refused to go on not understanding nutrition or how to make healthy sustainable meals, well maintaining a small budget. So, if you're looking to learn more about your health and nutrition, welcome to my blog!
